How To Weight Loss

This year, as usual, I made a resolution to lose 20 pounds. Same as last year, and the year before. So what is different this year? Well, so far, I'm sticking to it. I went for a walk yesterday, and it felt pretty good. I also carried some firewood in from the backyard and built a fire. That felt pretty good, too. So, to add some detail to my plan to lose 20 pounds is to be more active.

First, I am not joining some health club, although a really nice one just opened up right down the street. No, I am going to walk around the block. I have a route picked out which is just under a mile and it takes about 20 minutes. This gets my heart rate up, gets my muscles moving, and gets me out in the fresh air and sunshine. Better, I think, than sitting on some exercycle inside and staring at CNN for hours. Plus, I see my neighbors and friends while I'm out and about. Next, I want to move around more at work. Now, some of you probably work at a desk, so it may be hard to stand up all day, but I hope you can get up every now and then to g grab some coffee, talk to a colleague, or go to the restroom. I teach high school music (guitar) so I can either sit or stand while conducting. I have decided to stand up more. I can also walk around the classroom to check on students and burn a few more calories. Some of us have talked about walking together during lunch, and going bowling after school once or twice a month.

Also, I am going to watch what I eat. I don't count calories, but I am careful to watch the portions that I eat. I try not to go back for seconds, and be careful not to snack on chips, cookies, and other junk food during the day. Instead, I keep fresh fruits like apples and bananas, and fresh vegetables like carrots and celery, and fresh cheese and unsalted nuts for protein.
